Each year, U.S. News and World Report ranks the best high schools in the United States. In the 2017 U.S. News Best High Schools rankings of 769 high schools in the state of Minnesota, seven achieved gold medal status, 48 were selected as silver medal schools and 103 were ranked as bronze medal schools. Hancock High School was once again (2014, 2015, 2017) selected as a Bronze Medal winner. This puts Hancock High School in the top 20% of high schools in the state of Minnesota based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.
