Hancock Elementary School has been named a Reward School. Reward schools are public schools that have demonstrated exemplary academic achievements in state exam proficiency, student growth, graduation rates and closing achievement gaps. Every year, the top 15 percent of schools that receive Title I funding are recognized as Reward schools.
Hancock Elementary School was recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education as a “Celebration Eligible school”. What did this mean? It meant that we were closing the achievement gap and making academic gains in math and reading that put us in the top 25% of Title I schools in Minnesota. We then had to apply to the state explaining all the things we had done to increase our math and reading scores. The Department of Education then decided if we would be recognized as a “Celebration School”.
